Working hard for Retford

Last week it was announced that Retford Fire Station would remain a whole-time service, day and night.
This announcement came after a lengthy campaign to save the whole-time crews in the evening from being sent to Worksop and Retford being reduced to a retained crew.
Cllr Campbell commented '' I am over the moon with the decision of the Fire Authority. We fought a lengthy campaign and made sure that the voices of Retford residents were taken directly to the Fire Authority.''
After months of meetings, market stalls and talking with residents the Nottinghamshire Fire Authority amended their proposal and left Retford as a whole-time station in the evening but took action of the growing concerns in Worksop and approved an extra pump in the evening.
''Thanks needs to go out to the FBU and all the work our local fire fighters did to collect just under 2000 consultations in the town, the Fire Authority could only manage just over 600 in the whole of the County so the lads really have done well. And of course a huge thank you to the residents of Retford for supporting and sticking with the campaign, it just goes to show what we can do as a community when a service is threatened.''
''It is often said that we are the forgotten north within the county, well we certainly won't be forgotten anymore. Anyone prepared to take away a vital service in Retford and indeed Bassetlaw, needs to watch out, because we won’t let it happen!''
