Fire Cover Review

Today see's the launch of the 12 week consultation document for the Notts Fire Service Review which sets out the Fire Authorities proposal to relocate a whole-time fire engine to Worksop, leaving Retford served by a volunteer or retained crew for part of the day.

Retford Fire Station

Cllr Campbell has met with the Fire Brigade Union on this matter and is worried that the proposals could leave Retford at risk and vulnerable.

''Retford fire station serves a large area, not just the town centre but the outlying villages, power stations and local airports. frontline service will be cut by these proposals, this will seriously affect response times to emergencies and as a consequence put lives in danger''.

This comes at a time when Tuxford have just had a brand new fire station and Edwinstowe are looking at going from retained to a full time station.

''Our town is being hit from all directions with the cuts being implemented by the tory County Council and the con/dem government. We have already lost the magistrates court, we have lost one of our most experienced police officers, our fire service and police service are at risk can we really afford to stay quiet?''

''I am asking all residents to complete the Fire Authorities consultation document and tell them that Retford can no longer be put at risk by these savage cuts to our front line services, our jobs and our community''.
