Consultations handed over

Consultation

This week Councillor Campbell and representatives from the FBU (Fire Brigades Union) delivered consultations signed by just under 2000 worried Bassetlaw Residents over the Fire Cover Review.

The 1,998 consultations which were handed over to Station Manager Simon Glew will be added to the official consultation count and will help the Fire Authority make their final decision over Retford.

The Nottinghamshire Fire Cover Review ,which if accepted could see a reduction of 24 hour fire cover at Retford,  leaving Retford covered by a day crewed staff in the day and 2 x retained crews in the evening. The consultation which had been extended is due to end later this week after several weeks of consultation.

Cllr Campbell said "residents in Retford are concerned that the full time crew being transferred to Worksop at night will have a serious impact on call out times and will put lives at risk in Retford, I share these views and have been fighting to keep our service in Retford" "with the FBU I have organised market stalls and meetings with the Fire Service in order to get a better idea on what the community thinks and what the affects will be"

The Fire Service informed councillors that there would be a maximum 5 minute delay in the evening to get a retained fire crew out to a job.

"I will fight right up to the final decision being made to keep our service in the town and keep our community safe" Ian added.

Steve Bull from the FBU said "The FBU have serious concerns regarding the proposal for Retford. I would also like to thank all members of the public who took time to sign their petition."
