About Ian


Ian began to gain an interest in politics back in 2007 when he became President of North Notts College Students' Union. He went onto to represent college students on a national commitee with the National Union of Students before standing down in 2009.

While Ian was President at North Notts College the Students' Union won the award for the Best Students' Union of the year 2008 for services to the LGBT community from the National Union of Students.

 

In 2009 Ian was nominated by several individuals for the Young Person of the Year Award for his workshops on  tackling Homophobia. Ian was a joint winner of the award. 

 

 


Ian was born in Bassetlaw and has lived here all of his life. He was 23 when he was elected to Bassestlaw District Council and is currently Bassetlaw's youngest councillor.

Two weeks after being elected Ian was selected to be Mayor of Retford by the Retford Charter Trustees. He became the youngest Mayor in the countryand still holds the title 'Youngest Mayor in England and Scotland'.
